Autumn Adventure Bus Tour

PRESS RELEASE

From Loreli Steuer, Jim Murphy, and the UNDERGROUND RAILROAD COMMITTEE of the Morgan County Historical Society: (217) 245-5894.

FALL BUS TOUR HIGHLIGHTS UNDERGROUND RAILROAD SITES

An “Autumn Adventure Bus Tour” is planned to provide guided inside visits to five Jacksonville area Underground Railroad sites on Sunday afternoon, November 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. The tour will begin at Beecher Hall at 1 p.m. on the Illinois College campus. Free parking will be available in the adjacent lot. After the welcome to Beecher House, visitors will board one of two waiting buses for stops at Gillett House, Grierson Mansion, the Congregational Church, and Woodlawn Farm--all designated Underground Railroad sites.

Tickets, benefitting the ongoing restoration of Woodlawn Farm, will be $15 for adults, $5 for children 6-12, with no charge for those under 6. Included in the ticket price is “Blue Ribbon Chili Supper” with all the trimmings at the Congregational Church tour stop and a ”Campfire Sing-A-Long and S’mores” and other desserts at Woodlawn Farm, the tour’s final destination point.

For reservations, call (217) 245-5894. Tickets may also be purchased at Jacksonville’s Journal-Courier and Festival Foods. Bus seats are limited so it is advised to get them early. Guests may also follow along behind a bus and join the tour group, but the same ticket will be required to enter the site. The Tour is sponsored by the Underground Railroad Committee of the Morgan County Historical Society, the Journal-Courier, and the Jacksonville Visitors Bureau.
